Amazon marketplace has 6.1 million total sellers worldwide. There are 1.6 million active sellers, the rest no longer have products listed for sale. So far this year 327,000 sellers joined the Amazon marketplace.
Millions of small and medium-sized businesses from around the world are selling on Amazon. Every year more than a million new sellers join Amazon, however most never become active. Marketplaces tend to exhibit power law distribution, the observation that a large portion of sales on a marketplace is generated by a small fraction of its sellers population. These top sellers on Amazon are responsible for the majority of the overall volume on the marketplace.
New sellers this year
So far this year 327,000 sellers joined the Amazon marketplace, adding to the millions of sellers already on it. This equals to 2,440 new sellers every day, or 101 every hour, or even 1 every minute. At the current rate 890,000 new sellers will have joined Amazon by the end of the year.
